Mississippi inmate sentenced for sexual battery of corrections employee
SUMMARY: Ernest Mayfield, a 23-year-old inmate at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF), was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the sexual battery of a corrections employee. The incident took place on September 17, 2021, when Mayfield, recently booked into the facility, broke into a female employee’s office and assaulted her. As a habitual offender with prior methamphetamine possession convictions, Mayfield faced trial on April 30, 2024. The jury delivered a guilty verdict after a two-day trial with testimony from the victim, forensic experts, and other witnesses. District Attorney Bubba Bramlett acknowledged the efforts of law enforcement in securing the conviction.
