Mississippi governor signs law enforcement bills
SUMMARY: Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi signed four law enforcement bills into law. One measure allows deceased first responders’ families to receive the responder’s salary for 60 days. Another increases payouts from the Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Death Benefits Trust Fund. House Bill 691 revises the State Board on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training, empowering it to investigate misconduct and revoke officer certificates. The bill also requires the governor to make six appointments to the board. Reeves emphasized these changes provide more training, accountability, and unbiased investigations into officer-involved shootings, benefiting the law enforcement community and the public.

Daylight saving time: Does Mississippi want to stop changing the clocks?
SUMMARY: Daylight saving time (DST) ends on November 3, with many hoping it could be the last clock change. Despite numerous state and federal efforts to eliminate the biannual shift, progress has stalled. Many states seek to adopt permanent DST and have passed various resolutions, although they require congressional approval. States such as Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are among those pushing for year-round DST, while others like Idaho propose permanent standard time contingent on neighboring states’ actions. Recent legislative attempts have largely failed, with most states still set to adjust their clocks unless Congress intervenes.
