Wind shear will weaken Beryl as it progresses through the Caribbean, possibly downgrading to a Category 2 or 1 upon reaching the Yucatan Peninsula, eventually turning into a tropical storm in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. Forecast models indicate potential landfall between Mexico and Texas, with uncertainty beyond five to seven days. High pressure is causing above-average temperatures and heat alerts. Temperatures may ease with rain and thunderstorms by the weekend. Heat precautions and rain preparedness are advised.

SUMMARY: “Forks and Corks,” an annual restaurant competition and wine-tasting event in Starkville, is fast approaching.
