Tips to keep you safe when using fireworks
SUMMARY: Last year, nearly 10,000 people were sent to the emergency room, and eight died due to firework injuries on July 4th, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. Fireworks can also start fires if not used or disposed of correctly. Always read instructions and be prepared for any situation. Planning ahead can help you react more efficiently in emergencies. A critical aspect of firework safety is having a water source available, such as a hose, bucket, or fire extinguisher, to put out fires. Additionally, wearing eye protection is recommended when handling fireworks.

Security guard shot and killed
SUMMARY: We have a lot of work to do as a law enforcement agency, community, and city leaders. The Jackson Police Department (JP D) is solving cases exceptionally well with a 79% solvability rate, which outpaces the national average of around 52%. Most homicides involve acquaintances, suggesting a need for better conflict resolution strategies. We must focus on youth engagement and parental supervision, as demonstrated by a recent incident involving minors committing capital murder. Community involvement is crucial, with video surveillance from citizens significantly contributing to solving cases. This cooperation is vital in addressing violent crime in Jackson.
