Contractor at a NASA center agrees to higher wages after 5-day strike by union workers
SUMMARY: Approximately 200 union workers at Syncom Space Services LLC (S3), a NASA contractor at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, went on a five-day strike, prompting the company to agree to wage increases and other benefits. The workers, represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union, demanded higher wages and better treatment regarding scheduling and insurance costs. After negotiations facilitated by union representative John Piatt, S3 agreed to the demands, including broadened life insurance and comprehensive health care, dental, and vision options, along with an additional holiday. NASA remained uninvolved in the dispute.
