Thompson unhappy with SCOTUS decision to curb charges against Jan. 6 rioters
SUMMARY: Congressman Bennie Thompson, leading the Jan. 6 Capitol riot investigation, is displeased with the Supreme Court's decision favoring Joseph Fischer, a riot participant. The 6-3 ruling reversed Fischer's federal obstruction conviction, arguing the law historically targets evidence tampering. Thompson criticized the ruling, believing it jeopardizes numerous prosecutions but noted the Justice Department can still pursue most individuals involved in the riots. Chief Justice Roberts stated the government stretched the law's interpretation. The case will return to the D.C. federal appeals court to reassess charges against Fischer and others under the Supreme Court's new guidelines.

Biloxi police received reports in May 2023 that Hall had been sexually intimate with multiple children, revealing abuse that spanned most of their lives. Investigators found explicit recordings and messages on Hall's phone. Despite his apology to the victims' families, Judge Christopher Schmidt handed down the lengthy sentence, ensuring Hall will serve the full term without parole.
