IRS offering tax relief for Mississippians impacted by April storms
SUMMARY: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is providing tax relief for Mississippi residents and businesses affected by severe storms from April 8-11. Following a disaster declaration by FEMA, individuals in Hancock, Hinds, Humphreys, Madison, Neshoba, and Scott counties are eligible for this relief. The IRS has extended certain tax filing and payment deadlines to November 1, including individual income tax returns and quarterly estimated tax payments. Penalties on payroll and excise tax deposits due between April 8-23 will be waived if paid by April 23. Taxpayers outside the affected area can request relief via the IRS disaster hotline or through bulk requests on IRS.gov.

Two Mississippi Gulf Coast anglers break state saltwater fish records
SUMMARY: Two anglers from Mississippi's Gulf Coast set state records for saltwater fishing. Nathan Bosarge from Biloxi caught a 23-pound, 3.2-ounce Golden Tilefish on May 20, surpassing the 2021 record by Dustin Conway. Mark Kleinpeter from Gautier set the record for Permit with an 11-pound, 11.2-ounce fish using a spear on May 29, breaking Sean Cook's 2020 record. Summer spotlight: Petrified Forest tells Mississippi’s story in a natural way
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Petrified Forest, located in Flora near Jackson, is a unique national forest in the southeastern U.S., presenting a natural history of Mississippi. Discovered in the mid-1800s, it opened to the public in 1963 under Bob and Shirl Schabilion. Formed around 36 million years ago through natural processes like flooding and glacial movements, the petrified logs are remnants of ancient trees, once over 100 feet tall. Visitors can explore the nature trail, view exhibits in the Earth Science Museum, try gem mining, or camp at the site. The forest also features a new pavilion for events and a gift shop with souvenirs.

Pearl River Resort’s 30th anniversary celebration underway
SUMMARY: Pearl River Resort is celebrating its 30th anniversary with music, fireworks, and promotions.
