Youth Court Judge says there is a dire need for foster homes – Home – WCBI TV
SUMMARY: Judge Staci Bevill of Lee County Youth Court highlights a growing crisis in Northeast Mississippi: the severe shortage of foster homes. Many foster kids are forced to move far from their communities due to this scarcity, exacerbating their already difficult situations. Most foster cases stem from parents' drug offenses, and while efforts are made to place children with relatives, it's not always feasible. With 4,002 children in CPS custody statewide and 179 in Lee County, the need for foster homes is escalating. CPS officials urge communities to recognize this as a shared problem and encourage more individuals to become foster parents. The application process can take up to six months.
