WTV's Veronica Mahia reported that the heat makes asphalt expand and contract, worsening damage. Meteorologist Chelsea Simmons explained that recent fluctuations between high daytime and cool morning temperatures contribute to road wear. A Boonville resident highlighted the unbearable outdoor working conditions due to the heat and humidity. Chelsea noted that rain doesn't help, as it can erode the soil beneath cracked roads.
