SUMMARY: Arop will represent Team Canada in his second Olympic Games and enters favored to win. Meanwhile, I spoke with Callaway High alumnus and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Malik Heath this month. Heath's energy was infectious as he engaged with young athletes in the Jackson Metro area. Heath excelled at Callaway High, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss before making the Packers' 53-man roster as an undrafted player in 2023, catching his first touchdown in his rookie year. During our conversation, Heath poignantly remembered his late brother Jamaal, who was killed in a drive-by shooting, describing him as his guardian angel.

Councilman Stokes again calls for contract for JPD chief
SUMMARY: Jackson's police chief, Joseph Wade, is at the center of ongoing efforts to combat crime, as councilman Kenneth Stokes prioritizes public safety. Shooting rates in Jackson have raised concerns, prompting Stokes to push for a contract for Wade, which the city council approved but the mayor vetoed. The council overrode the veto. Stokes also calls for increasing the police force by 200 officers. Additionally, an upcoming ordinance will mandate security personnel at businesses with a history of violence during operating hours. This ordinance will be voted on in the next city council meeting, reports Delicia Banks from 12 News.
