MDOT using 'Safe Work Zone' technology for on-going Interstate 59 project
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Transportation is implementing a smart work zone system for the I-59 repavement project in Forest County to improve traffic flow and prevent accidents. The system collects real-time traffic data and displays messages on boards to alert drivers of upcoming congestion, such as “stop traffic in 10 miles.” Spanning 14 miles from the Lamar County Line to south of Mosel, the project aims to enhance safety, especially around the I-59 and US-49 interchange. The new system is expected to reduce accidents by 45% and will continue until at least late 2024. For updates, visit the MDOT website or download their traffic app.
