Forrest Co, gives update on Petal side of River Avenue project

SUMMARY: The Avenue Bridge construction is progressing well. Crews have the old bridge, installed forms, and poured concrete for three curb inlets at the Carterville Road intersection. They have also graded sections of the limestone base at South Main Street and Carterville Road in Petal. A line issue caused delays but has been resolved. Workers are now focused on finishing the drainage and inlets. Forest County engineer Nick Conley believes the is still on track to be completed within the original 2-3 months time frame, as anticipated by county .

Athletes ready for US Junior Olympics event in their hometown

SUMMARY: The USA Track and Field Junior Olympics begins tomorrow in Jackson, with over 1,500 athletes from four southern states participating. Bradley Davis reported from Hughes Field, where local athletes from the Mississippi Track are preparing despite the stifling heat. Coach Alan Senegal emphasized the importance of programs like Mississippi Track Stars, given that local schools often lack summer track programs. Competing in their hometown offers young athletes the to qualify for nationals. The four-day will also include field at Millsaps College. The top five in each event will advance to nationals later this month.

The Metro area will be well represented this during the Region 6 USA Track and Field Junior Olympics. Events will be held at Hughes Field and Millsaps College and local athletes are to compete in their hometown amongst the best in the Southeast.

Silver Alert issued for 56-year-old Winston County man

SUMMARY: Authorities have called off the search for Clovis Parker, a 56-year-old man missing from Winston County, due to dangerous heat. Sheriff Mike Perkins stated that Parker was last seen on near the 2300 block of Height Mo Road after leaving his home last night. enforcement utilized infrared drones and began their search at 6:00 AM, even deploying a canine unit, which had to be withdrawn due to the extreme heat.
