FEMA going door-to-door to help April storm victims
SUMMARY: FEMA teams were canvassing Jackson neighborhoods following the President’s major disaster declaration for severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding from April 8th to 11th. Six counties in the state received the federal disaster declaration, potentially granting access to low interest loans, grants, and renter’s assistance. FEMA’s efforts include informing storm victims on how to apply for assistance. Federal disaster recovery specialists aim to ensure awareness and encourage applications. A disaster recovery center is expected to open in Hinds County soon, and over half a million dollars has already been allocated to victims.
