Tracking the Tropics: When will the 1st tropical storm of the season emerge?
SUMMARY: In June, tropical development in the western Gulf, western Caribbean, and near the Bahamas is common due to warmer water temperatures. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two disturbances. The first, a broad low-pressure system in the Bay of Campeche, has 40 mph winds and may soon become Tropical Storm Alberto, potentially impacting eastern Mexico and southern Texas with significant rainfall. A tropical storm warning is in effect for parts of the Texas and northeastern Mexico coasts. The second disturbance, east of the Bahamas, currently shows disorganized showers and low development probability but may bring increased moisture to the southeastern coast by late Thursday.

Disabled Marine veteran spending one week on a tower to raise money for wounded heroes – Home – WCBI TV
SUMMARY: Scott Burns, a double amputee Marine veteran, is spending seven days atop a 14-foot tower at the Mall at Barnes Crossing, raising funds for his nonprofit “7 Days for the Troops.” This year's donations will assist two local disabled veterans in Northeast Mississippi—one with home modifications and another with a tiny home. Burns established the nonprofit 18 years ago to support disabled veterans. Despite the heat, Burns says his sacrifice is minor compared to what troops endure overseas. Local businesses are also contributing through raffles. People can donate funds or volunteer time to support the cause.

Temperatures will remain high, especially in the evenings, with lows in the mid-70s. The weekend will feature high humidity, pushing heat indices to 105-110 degrees. While high temperatures will be in the mid-90s, expect mostly cloudy skies and a chance of showers and storms, particularly on Sunday. Next week, temperatures rise again, reaching the mid to upper 90s, with potential for triple digits and a hot Independence Day.
