Clay County works to create new ordinance after dog attack
SUMMARY: A man is recovering after being attacked by two dogs in Clay County last week. The county is now developing an ordinance aimed at preventing such incidents. The attack occurred on Moon Hurd Road, where the dogs, initially chained to a tree, first attacked the victim’s dog before turning on him. Currently, the same dogs remain in the area. Clay County is looking to implement measures similar to those in other counties to prevent aggressive dog behavior and ensure owner responsibility. Sheriff Scott is working on a proposal, expected to be reviewed and processed in the coming weeks.

Former Natchez City Cemetery director dies
SUMMARY: Don Estus, the former director of Nachas City Cemetery, passed away last week in Oxford. He became the director in 1998, driven by his passion for history, which inspired him to write “Legends of the Nachas City Cemetery” in 2009, a compilation of over 100 stories from the site. Estus also co-founded Angels on the Bluff. A graveside service was held for him, where he was laid to rest in the cemetery he cherished.

Hundreds attend 2024 Thunder Over Columbus

Tupelo High School cross-country star has fastest time in race
SUMMARY: Tupelo High School’s cross country star Andrew Brown shone at the Satillo Invitational on Saturday, clocking an impressive 15 minutes and 25 seconds. Captured on video by his mother, Candace Brown, this time marks the fastest ever recorded by a Mississippi high school athlete on that course and the second fastest overall. Andrew Brown had the fastest time as a Mississippi high schooler at the Saltillo Invitational Saturday morning. His time was 15 minutes and 25 seconds. That time is also the second fastest all-time on the Saltillo course.
