Interview: Lee County Master Gardeners hosting Fall Garden Day on Oct. 5
SUMMARY: This weekend, Tupelo celebrates Fall Garden Day, featuring Betty Lou Miller from the Lee County Master Gardeners. The Master Gardeners program involves 40 hours of classes, a test, and volunteering to teach gardening skills. Fall Garden Day, held on October 5 from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Research and Extension Center in Verona, MS, will include speakers like Dr. Eddie Smith and Dr. Chris Cooper, who will cover topics like landscaping with wildflowers and pollinator gardens. The event also features guided garden tours, children‘s activities, garden vendors, and a scarecrow trail, promising a fun and educational day for all.
The event is scheduled for Oct. 5 at the Mississippi State Extension Center in Verona.

Interview: BBQ & Blues fundraiser happening in Pontotoc
SUMMARY: PAC (Ponto Achieving Community for Tomorrow), a community affiliate of Create Foundation, is hosting its third annual Barbecue and Blues fundraiser to support its mission of improving quality of life in Ponto County. Shelley Johnston shared that despite being at capacity for this year’s event, there are still opportunities for donations. The fundraiser will feature blues music, delicious barbecue, and a raffle with donated items. Established in 2022, PAC funds projects addressing food insecurity, supports local libraries and foster families, and engages in various community improvement initiatives, including affordable housing and early childhood education programs.

Investigation underway after body found
SUMMARY: The Ward 2 special election in Jackson is headed for a runoff, while an investigation is ongoing following the discovery of a man’s body this morning on N. West Street and Hartfield Street. Residents reported hearing gunshots shortly before the body was found beside his bicycle. Capitol Police responded to the scene, and the coroner has taken the body to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy. Evidence, including the bicycle and personal belongings, has also been collected as part of the investigation.
A body was found Wednesday on Hartfield Street.
