MDOT holds annual Equipment Operators Roadeo on Coast
SUMMARY: Every day on highways, MDOT equipment operators work safely and efficiently. Today, they participated in their annual rodeo, trading road work for competition. Bill Snyder reports on events like picking up balls with a backhoe, maneuvering a bobcat between cones, and using a tractor bush-hog without touching any cones. The rodeo features 84 contestants, with 14 from each of six districts competing to advance to multistate competitions. Lyla Nik watches her husband Vincent, a 22-year veteran, compete. Events like the “bear toss,” simulating roadkill removal, highlight the skills and pride of MDOT operators.
This year’s state event was held at the Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.

The sinking took about 15 minutes, with the metal structure descending uniquely due to a welded top. Situated 20 miles offshore at 100 feet deep, it will attract fish and divers alike.
