Mississippi State partners with Ingalls Shipbuilding to create heat safety device
SUMMARY: Mississippi State University and Ingalls Shipbuilding are collaborating to develop CoolMitt devices, wearable technology designed to help shipbuilders avoid heat-related injuries. The innovative devices, created by the University’s Athlete Engineering Institute, cool the body by circulating water through a specialized glove. This initiative aims to improve safety and performance for shipbuilders in South Mississippi, where temperatures can exceed 100 degrees during summer. The partnership also offers valuable real-world experience for MSU students. Supported by AccelerateMS through an MS-SHIPS DoD grant, the project has potential benefits beyond shipbuilding, enhancing safety across defense manufacturing.

No. 6 Ole Miss upset by Kentucky 20-17 in SEC opener
SUMMARY: The No. 6 Ole Miss football team faced its first significant challenge of the season, losing to Kentucky 20-17 at home, ending a 10-game winning streak. Ole Miss (4-1, 0-1 SEC) initially took the lead but struggled offensively, allowing Kentucky (3-2, 1-2 SEC) to gain momentum and score late in the fourth quarter. Despite a strong performance from quarterback Jaxson Dart, who threw for 261 yards, costly penalties and poor third-down conversions plagued the Rebels. Coach Lane Kiffin remains confident, noting the game could have gone either way. Ole Miss will next face South Carolina in conference play.
