His team, the NJCAA Division II ‘s Golf Champions, dominated the season, winning 12 consecutive tournaments and clinching conference and district titles by substantial margins. Thornton credited his players’ hard work for the honor, marking him as Gulf Coast’s second coach to win this prestigious award. Other nominees included freshman quarterback Landon Varnes, who threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns, leading a win, and sophomore JP Coulter, who recorded nine receptions for 118 yards and returned three punts for 45 yards. Pearl River’s first-ever women’s golf team set for debut
