Thornton wins prestigious Dave Williams Award
SUMMARY: Brad Thornton, coach of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s golf team, led his team to a national championship and received the Dave Williams Coach of the Year Award from the Golf Coaches Association of America. His team, the NJCAA Division II Men‘s Golf Champions, dominated the season, winning 12 consecutive tournaments and clinching conference and district titles by substantial margins. Thornton credited his players’ hard work for the honor, marking him as Gulf Coast’s second coach to win this prestigious award. All team members received PING All-America honors, with all finishing in the top 10 of the Clippd national rankings.

His interception concluded Jones’s final drive and helped limit the opponent to 207 total yards. Other nominees included freshman quarterback Landon Varnes, who threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns, leading a comeback win, and sophomore JP Coulter, who recorded nine receptions for 118 yards and returned three punts for 45 yards.
