Community rallies behind family after tragic house fire
SUMMARY: In Lowndes County, Mississippi, the community is rallying to support the Kidd family, who suffered a tragic fire that killed 15-year-old Willie Baldwin and 10-year-old Taeveion Kidd, and left two other family members critically injured. The blaze also destroyed their home. Lieutenant Rhonda Sanders of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, also president of the Community Benefit Committee, helped start a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical expenses, funeral costs, and other needs. SUMMARY: Cristian Mitchel Mondragon Gonzales, 29, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder related to a 2018 homicide on the Natchez Trace Parkway. Following a fight at a party on September 23, 2018, Gonzales pursued the victim, convincing him to go for a ride. He then shot the victim multiple times after they exited the vehicle. The victim was found the next morning. Gonzales faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on February 12, 2025. The case was investigated by the FBI, Natchez Trace Parkway police, and Ridgeland police.
