Outdoor Adventures with Chelsea: Boating Safety
SUMMARY: With warmer weather, more people are expected to spend summer days on the water. Wildlife officers emphasize safety when boating. In a segment on “Outdoor Adventures,” Lieutenant Ricky Barry from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks discusses essential safety measures. Speeding is a common cause of boating accidents. Before leaving the dock, ensure your boat has the necessary safety equipment: life jackets, registration and ID cards, and a fire extinguisher for enclosed gas tanks. Officers will check for compliance and for boaters under the influence, as alcohol effects are intensified on water, potentially leading to fines or jail time.
Before you head out on your boating trip this summer, make sure you have everything you need on board.
