First Missionary Baptist Church opens community garden dedicated to Gladys Lofton
SUMMARY: The Theta Zeta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority partnered with Buxy’s First Missionary Baptist Church to open a community garden, dedicated to the late Gladis Lofton, who envisioned it. The ceremony took place this morning. Family and friends recall Lofton’s efforts towards this project before she passed away a year and a half ago. The garden aims to provide the community with fresh vegetables and fruits and serve as a communal space. It is located at the corner of Baptist Alley and Murray Street.
Friends and family say Lofton was always working on bringing her vision of a community garden to life.
