SUMMARY: A partnership among the Lowndes County School District, Columbus Force Base, and the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services is benefiting special needs through SEARCH. The program allows students to spend their final school year working various at Columbus Air Force Base to learn job skills and handle work responsibilities. Project SEARCH aims to build confidence in students, enabling them to become contributing members of society. Currently operating in Ohio and 48 other states, the program seeks to expand within Mississippi, growing from 22 to 28 sites next year. This year, 6 students graduated from the program.

Hattiesburg man charged with making bomb threat against Smith County business

SUMMARY: A Hattiesburg man, Tobias Smith, was for allegedly making a bomb threat against Georgia Pacific Plywood in Smith County, Mississippi. The threat, received via text on July 5, led to the evacuation of employees. Smith, 27, was apprehended at the scene and charged with one count of terroristic threats. Before employees returned, bomb dogs searched the site for explosives. Smith is currently held at the Smith County Jail, awaiting a bond hearing.
