St. Andrews wins state
SUMMARY: JSU won 4-2, securing a spot in the SWAC Finals against Grambling State on Sunday at 1 PM. In the state baseball playoffs, St. Andrews faced defending champions East Union in a decisive Game 3. St. Andrews, trailing 3-0, rallied in the fifth inning to tie the game and took the lead, eventually winning 9-4. Series MVP Blake Bell contributed crucial runs, leading to St. Andrews' first state title since 2018. Head Coach Mark Fanning celebrated the victory with his son, who just finished his final season. The Saints join Brandon as 2024 baseball champions from the metro area.

Ex-boyfriend killed after breaking into Petal woman’s home, police say
SUMMARY: Breaking news out of Ped: police are investigating an early morning homicide. Chief Matthew Hyatt reported that officers responded to a call from West 10th Avenue at 3:14 AM Friday. A woman reported her ex-boyfriend was banging on her door before forcing his way in. A second man in the home fired a gun, striking the intruder. The man was rushed to a local hospital but later died. Names are withheld pending family notification, and no arrests have been made.

Fireworks exploded Thursday evening in Smithville

Grind to Glory: TCPS to rely on new crop of seniors
SUMMARY: “Grind to Glory,” sponsored by Southern Housing, features the TCPS Eagles in Tupelo. Senior Jake Franklin Ramsay emphasizes the importance of not getting complacent, especially after the significant graduation of over 10 players last season. The new senior class, including quarterback Jeb Brown, is stepping up to fill leadership roles. Brown is committed to holding teammates accountable and pushing the young, new faces to improve. Last season, TCPS finished 8-4, exiting in the second playoff round. This season, the team aims to build on last year's success, starting against East Union Urchins on August 30th.
