Clinton house fire believed to be linked to Jackson murder

SUMMARY: Clinton Police suspect a Thursday night house fire is related to a deadly shooting in Jackson. A witness saw two men pouring accelerant around the home on Cherry Park Boulevard before igniting it. Firefighters extinguished the blaze with minimal damage. Earlier that morning, police responded to a nearby shooting where 39-year-old Juan Taylor was killed on Medgar Evers Boulevard. The suspect identified in Taylor’s murder is Jeremiah Hampton. Hampton has not been linked to the Clinton fire or the associated shooting yet. Authorities urge anyone with information about Hampton or the incidents to contact either the JPD or CPD.

The Jackson and Clinton Police Departments are collaborating on the investigation into the murder and fire.
