Sheriff Matt Haley stated that deputies spotted Rivers fleeing towards the woods after responding to a welfare concern. Johansson's body was discovered in the vehicle. Rivers is being held on a $1 million bond. More details, an interview with Johansson's father, will be on WLX News at 6.

After multiple agencies carried out an hours-long manhunt for a murder in Harrison County, he was arrested Wednesday night.

Lauren Johansson, a 22-year-old USM student from , was found dead in the back seat of her car two days after being reported missing in Hattiesburg. Her boyfriend, Rivers, who was previously out on bond for attacking her in December, was following an extensive search. Multiple enforcement agencies and tools, drones and a helicopter, were deployed. Rivers was eventually apprehended through a coordinated effort involving undercover officers. The six-hour search ended with Rivers in custody at 11:30 PM.
