The Brandon baseball team wins first state title since 1967

SUMMARY: In Pearl, the Brandon Bulldogs had the opportunity to clinch the Seven-A State Baseball Championship, aiming to sweep Hernando in the series. Bulldog fans urged them to finish the game. In the first inning, Keith Forbes put the ball in play, leading to a scoring error by the Tigers, allowing Jay McQueen to score. Brandon's defense, led by Jackson Clark, secured a double play to thwart a Tigers' threat. Clark, dominant throughout the game, shut out the Tigers and ended with a strikeout, securing a 1-0 victory for Brandon. They swept Hernando to win their first state championship.

The Brandon Bulldogs sweep Hernando in the 7a state finals with a 1-0 win in game two. Jackson Clark threw a complete game shutout and Jay McQueen scored the lone run in the top of the first inning for Brandon. The Brandon baseball team are champions for first time in almost 60 years.

June ended dry with a 2-inch deficit, and early July is nearly an inch behind, with only 0.31 inches of rain in Meridian today. Notably, other areas received more. Portions of Noxubee and Clarke Counties are abnormally dry, but recent rain has been beneficial. More rain is expected south of I-20 tonight and over the weekend, with showers likely into Saturday and Sunday. Tropical Storm Barry, likely to strengthen, could bring additional moisture to Mississippi early next week. Overall, expect warm, muggy weather with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
