Laurel looking forward to summer tourists
SUMMARY: Tourism in Laurel is booming, with businesses preparing for an influx of summer travelers. Chuck Norris, owner of Sleepy Hollow RV Park, is expanding the park by adding new slots and amenities like a dog park, playground, pool, and lake. The park now has 71 slots, with 14 recently built. Tourism Chairman George Bassie notes a rise in visitors, from 176,000 to over 211,000 in a year, many of whom stay at least two nights and use Laurel as a base for regional trips. Local businesses, including restaurants, shops, and hotels, benefit from this growth. The city continues to explore new ideas to further boost tourism.

Grind to Glory: TCPS to rely on new crop of seniors
SUMMARY: “Grind to Glory,” sponsored by Southern Housing, features the TCPS Eagles in Tupelo. Senior Jake Franklin Ramsay emphasizes the importance of not getting complacent, especially after the significant graduation of over 10 players last season. The new senior class, including quarterback Jeb Brown, is stepping up to fill leadership roles. Brown is committed to holding teammates accountable and pushing the young, new faces to improve. Last season, TCPS finished 8-4, exiting in the second playoff round. This season, the team aims to build on last year's success, starting against East Union Urchins on August 30th. More updates will follow on Monday.

Friday Fur Babies: Meet Roxy
SUMMARY: Welcome to this week's Friday Fur Baby segment! Today, Judy Seabrook from the Mississippi Animal Rescue League introduces Roxy, a 2-year-old Rottweiler. Roxy is sweet, calm, and loves affection, although her previous owners couldn't spend enough time with her. She's on Heart Guard preventative and would benefit from a fenced yard. Roxy is friendly with other dogs and is described as a “tub of love” by the staff. Interested adopters can bring their current pets to ensure compatibility and fill out an adoption application online or in person. The rescue is open Tuesday through Saturday for visits.

SUMMARY: I hope you all had a wonderful Fourth of July. Hurricane Barrel, initially a Category 2 with winds at 110 mph, is now a major hurricane with winds of 115 mph. It's nearing the Yucatan Peninsula, expected to weaken to a tropical storm, then re-strengthen over the Gulf of Mexico, possibly hitting the Texas-Mexico border by the weekend. Texas could face significant rain, wind, and storm surge. Locally, a cold front will arrive, bringing showers and thunderstorms on Friday, with temperatures in the low 90s but heating up to 105 with the heat index. Daily rain chances continue into next week.
