Heidelberg High School’s valedictorian is DeChristen Halton, a Beta Club member and participant in the Power of the Pine Belt High School band, who plans to study Computer Engineering at USM. Christian Jones is the salutatorian, an academic honor roll student, and a Mississippi Senate Junior page, planning to study Agricultural Business Management at Alcorn . Predicted sustained winds are expected to reach 50 to 90 mph, with gusts up to 110 mph, raising concerns about severe weather impacts. Storm surge poses a significant threat, potentially reaching 10 feet, which could inundate properties situated just above level. While many residents are concerned, the majority of the population lives a few feet from the water, with critical access points being the bridges to Barrier Islands. Landfall is expected to occur tomorrow evening.

The Weather Channel Meteorologist Paul Goodloe reports from Apalachicola, Florida where he says people are still preparing in advance for Helene, which is predicted to be a major hurricane.
