Lamar County deputies undergo Crisis Intervention Training
SUMMARY: Lamar County Sheriff’s deputies are undergoing Crisis Intervention training provided by Pine Belt Mental Health. The program equips officers to recognize and deescalate mental health crises through role-playing scenarios involving mental illness, substance abuse, and domestic situations. Over half of the department’s 45 deputies are certified, and Sheriff Danny Regal aims for all deputies and correctional officers to complete the training. This initiative helps keep individuals experiencing mental health crises out of jail by addressing their needs for counseling or medical assistance.
