Mississippi man sentenced to 20 years in prison for threatening postal worker
SUMMARY: Henry Weaver, a 47-year-old man from Sledge, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for threatening a postal worker with a dangerous weapon. Paperwork filed for Tupelo to be a target to host major retail store
SUMMARY: Tupelo, Mississippi, may soon get a Target store after years of attempts to attract the retailer. In 2023, Target representatives visited a site on North Gloster Street, which is near the Mall at Barnes Crossing, to evaluate its potential. Target has filed paperwork for the construction of a nearly 150,000-square-foot store. A public hearing regarding the rezoning of 113 acres for the project is scheduled for September 30, with a site plan to be presented to the Tupelo City Council on October 1. Target aims to open 300 stores in the next decade.

Gulfport sex offender and his mother arrested for not cooperating with police
SUMMARY: In Gulfport, a sex offender named Andrew Betancourt and his mother Jodi Klubnik were arrested for failing to cooperate with law enforcement. Harrison County Sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Marshals attempted to serve an arrest warrant for Betancourt, who had not registered as a sex offender. When approached, Klubnik falsely claimed her son did not live there and was uncooperative. Authorities discovered Betancourt hiding under a bed. Betancourt faces a felony charge for failing to register, while Klubnik was charged with harboring a sex offender. Betancourt’s bond is set at $25,000, and Klubnik’s at $200,000.
