Record travel expected this Memorial Day weekend
SUMMARY: A record number of Americans are expected to travel by car this Memorial Day weekend, with 43.8 million people projected to travel 50 miles or more from home, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Road travelers are expected to reach a record 38.4 million, while 3.5 million are expected to fly. Demand for other modes of transportation is also rebounding from the pandemic, with an estimated 1.9 million people expected to take buses, trains, or cruises. Despite gas prices being similar to last year, they may increase due to fluctuating oil prices and geopolitical tensions. The travel industry is experiencing a surge in demand post-pandemic.

Mississippi inmate captured wearing only a sheet after escape
SUMMARY: An inmate escaped from the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF) on July 5 but was recaptured wearing only a sheet shortly afterward. Authorities, including Rankin County deputies, the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), and local police forces, were alerted around 12:45 p.m. after discovering blood and clothing on the prison's exterior fence. They established a perimeter and searched for the escapee. A suspicious individual in a nearby neighborhood was reported by a citizen, prompting the deployment of K-9 “Voodoo,” who quickly tracked and found the inmate in a lake. The Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) has taken the inmate back into custody and is conducting an internal investigation.
