Boy Scouts of America name change reaction
SUMMARY: Zach Ross, Scout director from the Pineur Area Council, announced changes for the Boy Scouts of America after 114 years of service. The organization will be renamed Scouting America in response to reports of sex abuse and gender discrimination. The organization welcomes girls to join, maintaining focus on leadership and citizenship. The local reception of the name change has been positive. While most programs remain single-gender, all genders are encouraged to participate in outdoor-based programs. With 13% of members being female, the organization aims to be more inclusive by changing its brand name. The name change will officially take place in February 2025.
After 114 years in service the organization's name will be changed to Scouting America.
