Gulfport man sentenced to death for murder of two-year old step-son

SUMMARY: Joseph David Heard of , Mississippi, has been convicted of Capital Murder for the of his two-year-old step-son on December 27, 2021. The child died of suffocation by smothering and multiple blunt force injuries. Heard’s abuse of the child, forcing him to sit on a potty- seat for hours and popping blisters with a spatula, was revealed during the trial. The child’s mother, Hailey Heard, confessed to the murder, stating that Joseph repeatedly punched the child when he took too long to get a juice box. Hailey is serving a sentence, while Joseph has been to death.

MGCCC celebrates 13 students named 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars

SUMMARY: Mississippi Coast Community College has announced that 13 of its have received the prestigious 2024 Coca-Cola of Promise Scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa. This recognition is awarded to new members who excel in academics, leadership, and community service. The scholarship program offers $1,000 to assist with educational expenses. Nationwide, 210 students were selected from nearly 1,500 applicants.
