Saturday's MHSAA and MAIS State track recap
SUMMARY: Local athletes from various schools competed in the state track meet, with impressive performances across various events. Colin Brannon won gold in the 3200 meters with a strong final lap, while Shaquentin Lofton, Coderro McDaniel, Kingi McNair, and Jamari Page also claimed gold in their respective events. The Clinton girls continued their dominance, winning multiple events. Clinton and Pearl excelled in 7A, while Ridgeland and Vicksburg performed well in 6A. Brookhaven and Canton tied for first in 5A boys, with Brookhaven dominating the girls’ events. In the MAIS meet, Adam Tucker and Ivy Savidge stood out, along with other local athletes. MRA, Hartfield, and Jackson Prep topped various categories in the overall MAIS results. East Rankin Academy and Tri County also performed well in their respective divisions. Overall, it was a successful meet for many schools and athletes.

Current temperatures across the region range from 57 to 62 degrees, with colder air moving in from the north. Tonight’s temperatures will drop to the mid-50s, with an overnight low in the upper 40s to mid-40s. Tomorrow will feel like fall, with a high of 68 degrees. A significant cool-down is expected by Friday night, with lows in the mid-40s and even the possibility of frost late next week as temperatures could drop to the 30s. Warmer weather returns over the weekend.

11/14- Feeling more like fall, but much colder air is in view
SUMMARY: In Meridian, the average first frost occurs by late October, and although temperatures dipped into the upper 30s recently, a widespread frost has yet to happen. The average first freeze is around November 7, indicating we are overdue. A cold front is bringing cooler temperatures, with lows expected in the 40s. This weekend will feature average temperatures, but a warm-up begins Monday. Rain is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by the potential for the first frost next weekend as colder Canadian air moves in. Additionally, a full supermoon, known as the Beaver Moon, will occur on Friday.

Union County industrial park receiving more than $3 million for 2 projects
SUMMARY: Union County is set to receive over $3 million from a statewide grant totaling more than $110 million for local economic development projects. The funds will be used for the development of the Martintown North Industrial Park, aimed at enhancing job creation and quality of life in the area. Current work includes clearing land for an elevated water tower, with future plans for a new building pad and a water well. Nearly $10 million in investments are being allocated for the park, with the water tower expected to be completed next year and further construction planned for 2026.
The Martintown North Industrial Park in Union County is receiving more than $3 million for two projects.
