Hospital leaders watch closely as Mississippi legislature debates Medicaid expansion
SUMMARY: In Mississippi, there is a proposal to expand Medicaid coverage to more low-income individuals, but it appears to be facing challenges in the legislature. Lawmakers attempted to pass a bill before a deadline, but were unsuccessful. Hospital leaders, including the CEO of Winston Medical Center, are closely watching the situation in Jackson. Supporters argue that Medicaid expansion would benefit community hospitals and help the working poor access necessary services, but opponents are concerned about the cost and a potential work requirement for recipients. Some lawmakers are hesitant to pass the bill without assurance of federal approval. The future of Medicaid expansion in Mississippi remains uncertain.
Expanding Medicaid appears to be on life support in the Mississippi legislature, and hospital leaders across the state are watching closely.

Ask John: What is the first day of autumn all about?
SUMMARY: In this week‘s “Ask John,” the question addressed is about the first day of autumn. John explains that autumn begins when the sun is directly over the equator, which occurs around September 22nd at 7:44 AM. The earth’s tilt at 23.5 degrees creates seasonal changes; without this tilt, we wouldn’t experience seasons. During autumn, days and nights are approximately equal in length. John emphasizes that understanding the sun’s position and the earth’s orbit helps explain why we have different seasons. Viewers are encouraged to submit questions for future segments.
