Defense calls witnesses in Atkisson trial
SUMMARY: In the DUI trial of Elijah Atkinson, he took the stand in his defense, claiming he was not drunk when he caused a crash that killed news director Marcel Walker 24 years ago. Atkinson, who was 18 at the time, stated he was confused about his surroundings after leaving a bar, though he admitted to briefly looking at his phone while driving. Friends testified that he appeared sober, but evidence indicated otherwise, as he recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.21. Conflicting statements about his alcohol consumption have emerged, raising questions about the reliability of his claims.
