Reservoir discharge to increase after recent rain

SUMMARY: Officials with Pearl River Valley Water Supply District are monitoring inflows at Barnett Reservoir. The reservoir was lowered to create storage space in anticipation of rain. Recent and forecasted rains have yielded a predicted inflow of 31,000 CFS, with the discharge at the spillway gates planned to increase from 24,390 CFS to 27,000 CFS. The river gage at Jackson is predicted to crest at 31.5 feet, causing minor flooding. Creeks and streams will back up, and low-lying street flooding is expected. The Pearl River at Monticello is projected to crest at 25.5 feet.
