Trump declines to endorse national abortion ban and says it should be left to the states
SUMMARY: Former President Donald Trump stated in a video that he believes states should decide their abortion laws after Roe v. Wade was overturned, sparking various reactions. He didn’t endorse a national ban, leaving him linked to any state legislation, including the strictest ones. While reiterating his support for exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and danger to the mother’s life, he credited the conservative Supreme Court justices for ending Roe. His stance disappointed anti-abortion activists who want national protection. President Biden criticized Trump, pledging to restore Roe’s federal protections and highlighting the post-Dobbs turmoil. Democrats leverage the abortion rights issue politically, and Trump navigates his stance, emphasizing winning elections.
