City of Hattiesburg launches new sewer repair initiative – clipped version
SUMMARY: In 2020, the city of Hattisburg entered into a consent decree with the Department of Justice, Department of Environmental Quality, and Environmental Protection Agency to address the issue of sanitary sewer overflows. The decree required investments in repairing and rehabilitating sewer transmission lines, as well as a supplemental environmental project to assist homeowners with repairing or replacing sewer service lines on private property. The city has launched the Clean Start Sewer Program, allocating over $200,000 for repair projects for eligible homeowners in priority areas with low to moderate income. Residents can apply online, by phone, or in person to improve the city’s sewer system.
A press conference is to be held Thursday morning for the announcement about the repair program.

SUMMARY: Two people died in a bus accident on Highway 98 in Pike County, as reported by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The incident occurred Thursday evening around 5:30 PM when a bus belonging to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, traveling westbound, collided with a red Ford Ranger. Investigators confirmed that the two individuals in the Ranger did not survive the crash.
