AP Decision Notes: What to expect in Mississippi’s US House primary runoff
SUMMARY: Two Republican candidates, Ron Eller and Andrew Scott Smith, are competing in a primary runoff in Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District to challenge Democratic incumbent Rep. Bennie Thompson. Eller and Smith were the top vote-getters in the primary, but neither received the majority needed. Eller emphasizes his “E-3 Plan” on education, economics, and energy, while Smith focuses on his platform “The 10 Rs” which includes restoring economic dominance and border security measures. Thompson has held the seat since 1993 and is unopposed in the Democratic primary. Turnout for the runoff is expected to be lower, and results may take time to determine the winner.
