SUMMARY: During a total solar eclipse, the moon blocks out the sun due to its apparent size being the same as the sun in the sky. The moon’s shadow travels at high speeds across the United States, with many cities experiencing a few minutes of totality. Before totality, look for Bailey’s beads and the diamond ring effect as the corona of the sun becomes visible. As darkness falls and temperatures drop, the experience of seeing the corona is described as incredibly beautiful. Only a small percentage of people will witness a total solar eclipse in their lifetime, making it a rare and special event worth celebrating with an egg cream afterwards.

The April 8th total solar eclipse will occur in the U.S Exactly 6 years, 7 months and 18 days after the last total solar eclipse.
