How will Mississippi weather be impacted in 2024?
SUMMARY: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a La Niña watch, predicting a switch from El Niño to La Niña by the end of summer. The transition may occur between June and August, with La Niña likely becoming stronger during winter. La Niña typically brings dry, warmer conditions to the southern U.S. and more precipitation to the Pacific Northwest and Ohio Valley. The colder and nutrient-dense water along the Pacific coast during La Niña is beneficial for marine life. La Niña conditions are determined by sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean and can affect the jet stream, impacting weather patterns on land.
