Lawmakers once again trying to ban some foreigners from owning farmland in Mississippi

Addressing security concerns, particularly over Chinese influence on the state’s prime economic sector, the bill penalizes foreign majority interest holders from adversary countries unless they renounce their citizenship or surrender the land. Exceptions exist for agricultural chemical companies like Syngenta. The bill follows a study on foreign land ownership and has passed the House, now awaiting Senate Judiciary Committee approval.
