Mississippi governor proclaims March as Wildfire Prevention Month
SUMMARY: Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi has declared March as “Wildfire Prevention Month” to bring awareness to the importance of preventing wildfires. The Mississippi Forestry Commission will be leading a media campaign throughout the month to spread this message. Due to dry conditions and seasonal changes, March sees a spike in wildfires in the state. Human activities are the leading cause of wildfires in Mississippi, with escaped debris burns being a major origin. To prevent wildfires, citizens are advised to check for burn bans, monitor the weather, burn only untreated wood debris, and never leave a fire unattended. Reporting a wildfire can be done by calling 833-MFC-FIRE.
