SUMMARY: The Mississippi House of Representatives has passed a bill, by a vote of 66 to 30, that allows liquor stores in wet counties to open on Sundays between 1 and 6 p.m. House Bill 329, authored by Republican Rep. Brent Powell, permits retailers the option to operate on Sundays but also provides a mechanism for local leaders to potentially reverse this through a referendum. For the referendum to occur, a petition must garner either 1,500 signatures or 20% of citizens, and then 60% of voters must oppose Sunday operations to revert to the current six-day-a-week schedule. Currently, liquor stores can sell from 10 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday, and must close on Sundays and Christmas Day. The bill needs Senate approval, where a similar proposal failed last year.

SUMMARY: No. 9 Ole Miss’s national championship hopes were dashed after a 24-17 loss to Florida, a must-win game for the Rebels. Despite outgaining the Gators, Ole Miss failed to score in the red zone, resulting in two turnovers on downs and a missed field goal. Jaxson Dart had a strong start with two touchdown passes but threw two late interceptions. Ole Miss struggled on the ground without its leading rusher, while Florida capitalized with a balanced attack. The Rebels, now 8-3, must regroup for the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State. This loss likely drops them from playoff contention.
