Fire that shut down portion of Natchez Trace Parkway under investigation

SUMMARY: Local firefighters are battling multiple grass fires in the area, one at Natchez Trace Park that shut down the parkway for hours. The fire affected over 140 acres and prompted a response from the Mississippi Forestry Commission, who dealt with over 100 fires on Sunday alone. The fire is 92% contained, but windy conditions, low humidity, and quick fire spread have contributed to the increase in wildfires during this traditional Wildfire season in March. Despite an uptick in fires, say it is fairly normal for this time of year.

Natchez Trace Park officials are investigating a wildfire that shut down a portion of the Natchez Trace Parkway for hours on Sunday.
