MUW program aims to increase women in political office
SUMMARY: Despite the slogan “A woman’s place is in the House – and the Senate” from the 60s and 70s, women still face challenges in seeking and being elected to political office. Currently, there are only 151 women out of 535 total members in the U.S. House and Senate. The Lowndes County Federation of Democratic Women at Mississippi University for Women discussed these issues and the need to support the next generation of female political leaders. MUW offers a Summer Leadership Institute to educate and empower young women to run for office. The deadline to apply for the program is April 7.
