Group of Jackson tax return preparers sentenced to prison for seeking over $3.5 million in phony credits
SUMMARY: A group of tax preparers from Jackson, Mississippi, received prison sentences for filing false tax returns resulting in over $3.5 million in fraudulent claims. The U.S. Department of Justice reported that Adam Earnest, James Klish, and John Wells were convicted on Friday, with terms of 100 months, 50 months, and 15 months, respectively, plus a three-year supervised release and pending restitution. Conspirators Christopher Rendell and Jonathan Barefoot await sentencing. The group, including convicted Earnest, Klish, and Rendell from Sunbelt Tax Service, and the pleading Wells and Barefoot, filed thousands of returns with false education credits, deductions, and business income or losses, causing significant losses to the IRS.

SUMMARY: Mississippi artists aged 21 and older have the chance to win $2,000 and be spotlighted at the state's largest art festival through the Blue Moon Art Project contest. SUMMARY: A manhunt in Harrison County concluded with the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, charged with one count of murder. Deputies responded to Wolf River Cemetery, where they found Rivers running into the woods. A deceased woman, 22-year-old Lauren Johansen of Gulfport, was found in the vehicle Rivers fled from. Johansen, reported missing July 2, attended school in Hattiesburg. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search, ultimately locating Rivers and arresting him. He is held at Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
