Jackson mayor receives recommendation for garbage contract
SUMMARY: Two companies submitted bids during the RFP period, one of which was Richard’s Disposal, currently under an emergency contract. The committee has recommended a vendor, which Mayor Lumumba will present to the City Council after contract negotiations. The current emergency contract with Richard’s Disposal ends on March 31st. The mayor will not name the selected vendor until after negotiations to ensure they meet the final points of the contract. This week, the legal team will contact the selected vendor’s legal team to begin negotiations. If negotiations fail, the vendor will not be selected. Mayor Lumumba emphasized the need for negotiations before presenting the company to the Council.

Walmart carjacking suspect arrested in Corinth
SUMMARY: A 23-year-old man, Telin Loveless, is accused of carjacking at gunpoint outside a Walmart in Corinth. On Sunday, he allegedly threatened a victim in their vehicle, demanding they exit before driving away. The car was later found wrecked on Highway 365 in Tishomingo County. Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers located Loveless near the crash site. He is currently awaiting a bond hearing.
